Munoz, Spence named ASU Athletes of the Week
ASU Athletes Azahara Munoz (Women's Golf) and Josh Spence (Baseball) have been named Arizona State's Athletes of the Week, for the week ending April 11. Both gave outstanding performances in their respective fields over the weekend.
Munoz, the reigning NCAA Champion, competed in the Nabisco Kraft Championship this past weekend in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Munoz, a senior, was one of five amateurs to gain an exemption to the LPGA event. Of those five amateurs, Munoz was one of three to make the cut after the second round. She shot a 7-over 295 (71-74-77-73) to tie for 40th.
Spence continued to dazzle for the Sun Devils, this time in two different roles. On Wednesday night against Cal State Fullerton, the Aussie came out of the bullpen to pick up a save, pitching the final two innings to nail down the win over the Titans. He was in his customary role as starter on Saturday, going eight innings without allowing an earned run while striking out a career-high 14 in a 12-1 ASU win over Washington. Spence threw 10 total innings, going 1-0 with one save, striking out 16 while allowing only an unearned run to cross. He was a big part of a 4-1 week for the Devils, including a three-game sweep at Washington.
