Molinaro ties for second at Pac-12 Championships

With two golfers finishing in the top-five, the fourth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team finished in fifth place at the 2012 Pac-12 Championships, Sunday, at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. The Sun Devils shot a tournament total of 23-over 887 (299-298-290), six strokes back from 2012 champion California.
Senior Giulia Molinaro led Arizona State for the seventh-straight tournament, shooting birdie-birdie on the final two holes of the round to finish in a tie for second place. Molinaro, ranked second in the nation according to Golfweek, shot a 2-over 218 (71-74-73) for the tournament. Molinaro’s second-place finish marks the seventh time the senor has finished in the top-10 this season.
Sophomore Daniela Ordonez shined in the final round of competition, shooting the second-lowest round of the day with a 69. Ordonez’s 3-under on Sunday vaulted the sophomore into a tie for fifth place. Her fifth-place finish is the highest Ordonez has recorded this season.
Freshman Noemi Jimenez finished in a tie for 17th with a three-round total of 7-over 223. Jimenez also shot her lowest round of the tournament on the final day of competition with a 73. Sophomore Justine Lee shot a total of 10-over 226 to finish in a tie for 29th.
Next up, the Sun Devils await selections for the NCAA Regional Championships held May 10-12. The NCAA will announce the regional selections this Monday, Apr. 30 at 6 p.m. PT on NCAA.com.
