Mixed-media, watercolors open ASU Gammage season

Mixed-media panels by Jason Breitenbucher and watercolors and acrylics by members of Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona will be featured at ASU Gammage Aug. 11-Oct. 9.

Breitenbucher, a Mesa resident, will show work from two series, “Terrene” and “Solvolaré,” which both use sustainable wood products and stone, “giving new life to a material once destined to be unclaimed,” the artist said.

“Terrene” consists of landscape panels that explore balance through the juxtaposition of opposing materials, while “Solvolaré” explores the human element through balancing cities, with symbolism created in a city hanging between a Sun and a Moon.

Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona was founded in 1968 and has a limited membership of 40 award-winning, juried artists who are “solidly based in the fundamentals of painting with watermedia.”

The exhibit will include artworks ranging from abstract to realism, “allowing for an intellectual and emotional tour of the inner visions of each artist,” said member Betsy Aguirre.

Exhibit hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays, or by appointment by calling (480) 965-6912.

Due to rehearsals, event set-up, performances, special events and holidays, it is advisable to call (480) 965-6912 or (480) 965-0458 to ensure viewing hours, since they are subject to cancellation without notice.

Visitor parking is available at meters around the perimeter of Gammage, and entrance is through the East Lobby doors at the Box Office.
