Men's golf opens spring season in Tucson

The Arizona State men's golf team will be back in action for the 2013 spring season as they head south to Tucson for the Arizona Intercollegiate, the first major college golf event for golfers in the 2013 season. The tournament, from Jan. 28-29, will be played at the par 71, 6-932-yard course at The Golf Club at Vistoso.

The tournament's first 36 holes will be played Monday beginning at 8 a.m. (MT), with continuous play going throughout the day. The final 18 holes will follow up starting at 8 a.m., Jan. 29.

The Sun Devils come into the spring season with some momentum as the final tournament of the fall season resulted in a second-place team finish, while freshman Jon Rahm Rodriguez took home the individual championship.

Rodriguez was the first freshman for ASU to capture an outright victory since Jesper Kennegard in 2008. He shot 12-under par in his winning effort.

Making up the field alongside Arizona State will be California (1), Cal State Fullerton, Central Arkansas, Kennesaw State, Liberty (18), New Mexico (4), New Mexico State, Pepperdine, Santa Clara, TCU, UC-Riverside, Utah, UTEP, and host Arizona.
