McCormick places ninth in world at FINA World Championships


Competing in the 14th FINA World Championships, junior diver Riley McCormick finished ninth in the world on the men’s 10-meter platform dive, July 24, in Shanghai, China.

Diving for his home country of Canada, the 2011 Pac-10 platform champion scored a 444.50 in the final round of competition.

Also representing Arizona State, senior Constantin Blaha finished 19th in the world in the men’s 3-meter springboard. The back-to-back Pac-10 Champion in the men’s 3-meter springboard, Blaha scored a 392.90 in the event diving for his home country of Austria.

FINA is the governing body of international competition in aquatic sports and oversees competition in swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo and open water swimming. The FINA World Championships is the organization’s largest event held every odd year. The diving world championships feature only the best divers in the world.
