MBA programs gear up for 'green'

ASU's W. P. Carey School of Business was featured on a recent NPR episode of Marketplace for its cutting-edge MBA curriculum that considers the environment and social good – a fundamental reshifting of how we do business, says Eve Troeh, a reporter on Marketplace's sustainability desk.

Troeh visited with ASU professor Reynold Byers and MBA students in his class "Sustainability and Social Responsibility."

"Students in this class are seeking something different," Troeh reports. "They're after a triple bottom-line: a solution with social, environmental and financial gains."

Troeh reports that the class was engaged in a case study activity that focused on the company HP and the problem of e-waste. The class looked at how HP might squeeze value out of old, broken or returned electronic products to save the company money and keep the products from ending up in a landfill.

ASU's MBA program was one of several graduate programs featured.

Troeh reports that graduates who are educated in this new business model will have an edge in today's job market.
