Max Rotluff continues solid play for men's golf in California


Sun Devil freshman Max Rotluff continued his solid play as he is tied for sixth with a 1-over 143 (71-72) at North Ranch Collegiate Invitational, as the teams played 36 holes, Feb. 25.


In his past three tournaments he has finished eighth (Amer Ari Invitational), tied for third (Arizona Intercollegiate) and tied for fifth (Bill Cullum Invitational).

The event is held at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. (par 71, 6,753 yards).


Co-hosted by Pepperdine and USC, the 12 teams are Pepperdine, USC, Arizona State, Brigham Young, Liberty, Lipscomb, San Diego, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbar and Western Kentucky.


Arizona State won the event in 1980, 1983, 1986, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001.


Sun Devil individual champions were David Lee (1979), Dan Forsman (1980), Billy Mayfair (1987), Todd Demsey(1994) and Paul Casey (1998).


USC hosted the event from 1978-2011. Pepperdine hosted the event in 2012 (USC instead was the host school for the 2012 NCAA Championships). In 2013, the two schools are co-hosts. Sun Devil freshman Jon Rahm has five eagles already this year, the most since Niklas Lemke had seven in 2004-05. Chez Reavie (2002-03) and Alejandro Canizares(2003-04) had six, while Paul Caseyin 1997-98 had the most (eight) since the 1993-94 season. Rahm is averaging 4.5358 on par-5 holes this season, best by a Sun Devil since Lemke shot 4.4678 on the long holes in 2006-07.
