Luoma appointed new director of purchasing at ASU

September 07, 2012

Nichol Luoma is the new director of purchasing at Arizona State University (ASU). Luoma joined University Business Services Aug. 13.

This is not Luoma’s first introduction to ASU. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management from ASU. Since gaining her degree at ASU, she received an MBA from Duke University – also with a Summa Cum Laude distinction.

Luoma returns to her maroon-and-gold roots after having served as vice president of operations at BKD (a division of Tomy International) and previously at the Intel Corporation. Luoma worked at Intel for nearly a decade. One of her positions there was technical advisor for corporate vice president, Hans Geyer. At Intel, she worked on strategy development, senior staff and customer management and group operations.

“Nichol’s wealth of industry experience combined with her outstanding academic record will immediately benefit everyone in ASU purchasing and cause a positive ripple effect throughout ASU business systems,” said John Riley, executive director of purchasing and business services. “I am grateful to have her bring a fresh perspective to our team.”

Luoma will continue to work closely with Riley, who has led purchasing and business services for 25 years. With a professional background in supply chain management, strategic sourcing, procurement and project management, her skillset is aligned with the department’s goals to help ASU discover more process efficiencies and cost reductions for goods and services.

“I am very pleased to return to ASU with professional experience that complements the education that I received here,” Luoma said. “Being back is exciting to me on several levels, and I’m enthusiastic to begin a challenging and positive new chapter at ASU.”
