Senior linebacker Shelly Lyons has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Sept. 26. Lyons (Corona, Calif.) earns his first weekly award from the Conference and becomes the first Sun Devil to ever earn a Pac-12 Player of the Week award.

Lyons had a memorable night in his final game against USC, picking off a Matt Barkley pass for his first career interception and returning it 41-yards for his first career touchdown. The interception came late in the fourth quarter, sealing the 43-22 Arizona State victory over the Trojans, its first against USC since 1999. Lyons added four tackles, including one for loss in the victory.
