Law students featured in `Yuma Sun'


<p>An article in the June 9 edition of <i>The Sun</i> in Yuma reported on a summer internship program in the county's Office of the Legal Defender, which is providing a real-world legal experience to four Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law students.</p><separator></separator><p>In the article by James Gilbert, 2L students Eric Robinson, Omer Gurion, Amara Edblad and Sarah Spears were interviewed about the 10-week program which began five years ago. Also participating in the program is Sebastian Sanchez, a student at Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh.</p><separator></separator><p>&quot;This is one of the only places for experience outside my classroom,&quot; said Gurion. &quot;Nothing can suck the passion out of you like a dry book.&quot;</p><separator></separator><p>So far, Edblad has done research, observed court hearings and written several memos and motions. &quot;I'm going to be able to apply what I'm learning here to my classes next year because this is exactly what I'm going to be doing in some of them,&quot; she said. &quot;It's learning by osmosis, and I want to learn as much as I can while I'm here.&quot;</p><separator></separator><p>Spears told Gilbert that she plans to encourage her classmates to take part in the program; that word-of-mouth advertising is how Robinson became involved.</p><separator></separator><p>&quot;Writing is such an important part of law school and being able to do it while I'm here is going to help me tremendously,&quot; he said.</p><separator></separator><p>To read the full report, click <a href="http://www.yumasun.com/news/law-50634-program-year.html">here</a>.</p><… lang="EN">Janie Magruder, <a href="mailto:Jane.Magruder@asu.edu"><font color="#0000ff">Jane.Magruder@asu.edu</font></a><br />(480) 727-9052<br />Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law</span></p>
