Law students to compete in 2011 Jenckes Cup

First-year law students Saman Golestan and Daniel Hughes will represent the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and compete against a team from the University of Arizona for the coveted Jenckes Closing Argument Competition Cup. The event will begin at 5 p.m., Nov. 11, in the Great Hall in the College of Law, on ASU’s Tempe campus.

Golestan and Hughes took first and second place, respectively, in the finals on Oct. 28.  Also among the top four finalists were 1L Michael Wilburn and 2L Andrew Clark.  Other students who advanced out of the preliminary rounds into the finals were 3L Ryan McCarthy, 2L C.B. Misbach and 1Ls Courtney Van Cott and James Alling.

Sponsored by the American College of Trial Attorneys, the Jenckes Cup is an annual competition between the College of Law at ASU and the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. Students prepare and present a closing argument based on a closed case file. During the intra-school competition, two winners and two alternates are selected.
