Law professor, Winer, blogs for 'The Media Institute'


The Media Institute has published a commentary by Professor Laurence Winer in its blog, Media & Communications Policy. In the blog post, "A Unitary First Amendment - Redux," Winer addresses a recent comment by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts regarding a case that has implications for political speech.

"We don't put our First Amendment rights in the hands of (government) bureaucrats," Roberts reportedly said during oral argument of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. At issue is a provision in campaign reform legislation that bans the use of corporate funds for "electioneering communications" via broadcast, cable or satellite close to election time, Winer wrote.
