Law professor awarded Fulbright Scholarship


<p>Professor <a href="http://www.law.asu.edu/Apps/Faculty/Faculty.aspx?individual_id=5326">Ad… Chodorow</a> of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law will spend the 2009-10 academic year as a Fulbright Scholar at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwestern China.</p><separator></separator><p>Chodorow will teach two courses each semester, Taxation and Tax Policy, and participate in the countrywide lecture series sponsored by the Fulbright program. The Fulbright Scholar Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.</p><separator></separator><p>&quot;The purpose of the program is to foster mutual understanding and build ties and connections with Chinese academics and students,&quot; said Chodorow, noting Chengdu is Phoenix's sister city in China. &quot;Another goal is to expose Chinese students and others to Western ideas, such as the rule of law, and to help China transition to a modern economy.&quot;</p><separator></separator><p>Chodorow teaches a variety of tax courses at the College of Law, where he is a Faculty Fellow in the College's Center for the Study of Law, Science, &amp; Technology. His teaching interests lie in tax, administrative and regulatory law. His research focuses on religious taxation and a variety of contemporary tax issues, such as the taxability of virtual income.</p><separator></separator><p>Chodorow is Vice Chair for Planning for the Teaching Tax Committee of the ABA's Tax Section and on the Council of the Tax Section of the State Bar of Arizona.
