Law prof comments on employer-sanctions law

Professor Paul Bender was quoted recently in an Arizona Republic article, “Supreme Court to review Arizona law.”

The June 29 article, by reporter Craig Harris, discusses the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments later this year on Arizona’s landmark 2007 law that penalizes employers for hiring illegal immigrants.

Bender, a constitutional-law expert, told Harris that the Supreme Court’s ruling on the employer-sanctions case could be narrow, not providing much direction on the new immigration law, SB 1070. And, Bender added, because the employer-sanctions ruling won’t come for about a year, lower courts may have no guidance, as rulings on the new law could occur during that time.
