<p>Associate clinical professor <a href="http://www.law.asu.edu/Apps/Faculty/Faculty.aspx?individual_id=65860&qu…; target="_blank">Marcy Karin</a>, director of the Work-Life Policy Unit in the Sandra Day O' Connor College of Law's Civil Justice Clinic, was a guest blogger on Nov. 3 on the Sloan Work and Family Research Network.</p><separator></separator><p>In a post on the Work and Family Blog, entitled "Military Families and Workplace Flexibility: The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010," Karin praised President Obama's recent signing of the act. By expanding provisions in the Family and Medical Leave Act, family members of active duty members in the military now will be able to use qualifying exigency leave when the service member is deployed to a foreign country, Karin noted.</p><separator></separator><p>To read about other changes to the act and the complete posting, click <a href="http://wfnetwork.bc.edu/blog/military-families-and-workplace-flexibilit…; target="_blank">here</a>.</p><separator></separator><p>"This is just the first of many laws that President Obama will likely sign that provide military families access to additional time off and other types of workplace flexibility," Karin wrote. "But we can also expect the President to fulfill his campaign promise to support the needs of all workers as they struggle to find a work-life balance."</p><separator></separator><p>Karin supervises and instructs student attorneys working on behalf of clients in the Civil Justice Clinic. Her research interests include workplace law, policy, and practice, civil justice and litigation, and women's legal history. Karin is an active member of the national work-life law and policy community.
