Justice O'Connor to appear on 'Letterman'

<p>Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor will make an appearance on the &quot;Late Show with David Letterman&quot; on Tuesday, June 23, to discuss her new children's book, <i>Finding Susie</i>. The program airs at 10:30 p.m. on CBS.</p><separator></separator><p>The book is billed by publisher Random House of Canada as a &quot;perfect pet&quot; story about Sandra, who grows up on a desert ranch surrounded by animals and wants to have her own pet. A tortoise isn't really friendly, a little rabbit is too fearful, and a young coyote howls to rejoin his pack. A bobcat almost fits the bill, but soon grows too big and fierce to be a housecat.</p><separator></separator><p>Sandra's parents let her learn for herself that these animals are best suited to the wild, although it is often hard to let them go. Finally, a smiley little stray dog finds Sandra. Sandra names the dog Susie, and the two become wonderful friends.</p><separator></separator><p>As a child, Justice O'Connor got to know a wide variety of the wild, indigenous animals that surrounded her desert ranch home. Finding Susie is a composite of her own and her siblings' experiences. The book is illustrated by Tom Pohrt, a Michigan artist whose illustrations have appeared on the cover of <i>The New Yorker</i>, as well as in many acclaimed picture books, including the bestselling <i>Crow and Weasel</i> by Barry Lopez.</p><separator></separator><p><span style="font-size: 9pt; color: black; font-family: Tahoma" lang="EN">Janie Magruder, <a href="mailto:Jane.Magruder@asu.edu"><font color="#0000ff">Jane.Magruder@asu.edu</font></a><br />(480) 727-9052<br />Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law</span></p>
