The Arizona State men's golf team, led by the play of junior Philip Francis, finished in seventh place at the Western Intercollegiate in Pasatiempo, Calif. Francis tied for ninth with a 3-over par 213 (72-70-71) to help the Sun Devils to a 39-over par 1089 (355-368-366).

Francis carded an even par 70 and a 1-over par 71 in the second and third rounds, respectively, to move up 13 spots from 22nd to ninth. This is the third top-10 finish of the 2010-11 season for Francis, who placed sixth at the Topy Cup in November and seventh at The Battle at the Beach in February.

Senior Scott Pinckney tied for 15th after carding a team-best 1-under par 69 in the final round to finish with a 5-over par 215 (72-74-69). He was tied 29th after the second round, but holed four birdies in the following round to crack the top 20.

Senior Jesper Kennegard ended with an 8-over par 218 (66-75-77) to tie for 25th and senior James Byrne tied for 33rd at 10-over par 220 (73-72-75). Senior Oscar Zetterwall finished tied for 64th at 17-over par 227 (72-81-74) after starting the final round in 70th and senior Thomas Buran recorded a 23-over par 233 (78-77-78) to tie for 78th.

Timothy Madigan of New Mexico State took individual medalist honors with a 3-under par 207 (69-68-70), while UCLA won the team title at 16-over par 1066 (347-348-371). USC finished second at 24-over par 1074 (362-249-363), and Oregon (360-364-352) and Augusta State (355-357-364) tied for third with a 26-over par 1076.

The Sun Devils return to the course April 29 to May 1 for the Pac-10 Championship in Stanford, Calif.
