Identifying keys to sustainable transportation options

The Arizona Republic turned to Mikhail Chester, whose research pursuits include assessing the sustainability of transportation systems, for answers to questions about the economics of gasoline prices, what motivates use of public transportation, and the definition of sustainable transportation infrastructure.

He also addresses what it will take for the Phoenix metropolitan area to ensure its transportation systems enhance the quality of life in the city and its neighboring communities in the future.

Chester is an assistant professor of civil engineering in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, one of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.
