How mask wearing could impact child social development
The ability of young children to read and connect with faces is of vital importance to their social development. As the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the covering of so many faces, what effect might this have on our young children?
KJZZ journalist Lauren Gilger spent time speaking with ASU principal lecturer Denise Bodman from the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics to explore this matter.
“From the time they (infants) are born, they will stare at faces,” said Bodman. “Their favorite thing to look at is a face. Not brightly colored rooms, not brightly colored mobiles, but a face.”
