Hessick comments on Ariz. immigration law ruling

A Reuters article about a federal court hearing in Phoenix on July 22, “No ruling in hearing over Arizona immigration law,” quoted professor Carissa Byrne Hessick.

In the article, by Tim Gaynor and David Schwartz, Hessick is quoted as saying that at stake in the Obama administration’s lawsuit against the state of Arizona is whether the federal government has full authority over immigration policy and enforcement. U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton is presiding over the Obama lawsuit and several others.

“A ruling in either direction will probably be a very strong signal about how this judge views the validity of the Arizona law and the strength of the administration’s arguments,” Hessick said.
