Herrera featured in `Maricopa Lawyer’

October 02, 2008

Tamara Herrera, clinical professor of law at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, wrote in the October edition of Maricopa Lawyer about the “restyled” Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which were revamped by the Judicial Conference’s Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure and became effective on Dec. 1, 2007.

In her column, “Legal Writing,” Herrera said the rules weren’t changed for substance, but to reflect style issues, and should be viewed as important lessons in legal drafting. As an example, she provided a comparison between the old and new rule 7(b)(1).

For more lessons from the “restyled” rules, Herrera recommended the Plain Language columns by Joseph Kimble in the Michigan Bar Journal. She also suggested watching for the “restyled” Federal Rules of Evidence, because they’re due for an overhaul.
