The Arizona State women’s gymnastics team (1-0) opens up its first-ever Pac-12 conference match as the Sun Devils host the University of California at 7 p.m., Jan. 20, in Wells Fargo Arena. The meet will be webcasted live by Fox Sports Arizona.

The Gym Devils are coming off of a home-opening victory over UC Davis on Jan. 6, where Arizona State scored an event total of 48.700 on bars. Led by senior Kahoku Palafox’s score of 9.850 in the event, the Sun Devils are currently ranked 16th in the nation on bars. Palafox is ranked 15th in the nation overall with her score.

The meet against California is also a special homecoming for Sun Devil alum Danna ‘Lister’ Durante. Durante is in her first season as the head coach of the Golden Bears. While at ASU, Durante was a first-team Pac-10 all-academic selection in 1995 and holds the school record for most perfect 10s on beam with five.

Cal scored a 192.500 in its last competition, last Sunday against top-ranked UCLA. The Golden Bears were led by junior Mariesah Pierce, who placed second in the all-around against the Bruins with a 39.150.

The Sun Devils and the Golden Bears met in Tempe last season with the Sun Devils pulling out the victory 194.450-191.975.
