Fundraiser for Strouse scholarship planned

Friends of Professor Daniel Strouse, a beloved faculty member at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law who died of cancer in August 2007, are planning an event to raise money for scholarships and student prizes that were established in his name.

The first Strouse Wine Tasting will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Olive & Ivy, 7135 E. Camelback Road, along the Scottsdale Waterfront, and just south of Scottsdale Fashion Square. Tickets for the event are $35 for professionals, $20 for students.

Proceeds will benefit the Daniel Strouse Scholarship and Prize Fund, which supports students who possess the same outstanding characteristics that were demonstrated by Professor Strouse. A law professor for 17 years and former director of the College's Center for the Study of Law, Science, & Technology, Professor Strouse was known for his intellect, dedication to career and family, enthusiasm, kindness, grace, integrity and myriad admirable qualities.

Each year, three current law students are named Strouse Scholars for their contributions to and involvement with the Center. Additionally, the Strouse Prize is awarded in May to a graduating student whose academic strengths, contributions to the Center and personal qualities most closely mirror those of Strouse.

The awards have the ability to greatly impact students who are dedicated to their academics, respected by their peers and professors and plan to contribute to the legal community.

Tickets can be purchased from John Shufeldt (Class of 2005) at JohnShufeldt@nextcare.com or from Jalayne Arias (Class of 2008) at jjnarias@gmail.com. Attorneys and law firms are encouraged to contribute $500 to "sponsor" a line of wine or appetizer, which also includes admission for up to three of a contributing firm's attorneys or staff members to the wine tasting.
