Four pitchers combine for shutout as ASU baseball prevails


The 14th-ranked Arizona State baseball team shut out No. 13 Cal State Fullerton, March 27, in front of 2,920 fans at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. Joey DeMichele collected the only RBI of the game and four Sun Devil pitchers combined to shut out the Titans.

DeMichele broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single through the right side. He scored Andrew Aplin, who led off the frame with a double down the right line before stealing third.

Sun Devils (16-8) right-hander Robert Ravago (2-0) earned his second win in as many games, throwing 2 2/3 perfect innings with one strikeout.

Right-hander Zak Miller, making his second start of the season, gave up seven hits in a no-decision, but allowed no runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Right-hander Joseph Lopez pitched a perfect eighth inning before right-hander Jake Barrett (4) collected the save with a scoreless ninth.

Titans (14-9) right-hander Koby Gauna (2-2) took the loss after giving up one run one three hits in five innings.
