Fitness, holiday fun headline upcoming events for ASU alumni families
Families wishing to pass along Sun Devil spirit to their children can participate in a fun run on Nov. 9 and a holiday storytime event on Dec. 7. Both events are hosted by Sun Devil Generations, a program of the ASU Alumni Association for children aged 12 and younger and their families.
Sparky’s Sprint, a 1.25-mile fun run for all ages, will be held on ASU’s Tempe campus on Nov. 9. The course begins and ends at the Sun Devil Fitness Center, and winds past a number of iconic locations on the north end of campus, including Old Main, the Hayden Library, and the Sun Devil Campus Store.
Check-in will start at 9 a.m., a group warm-up session featuring Sparky the Sun Devil will be held at 9:15 a.m., and the run itself will start at 9:40 a.m. Children's race registration includes official race bib, gear, race warm-up, fun run, games and prizes. The event is free for children enrolled in the Sun Devil Generations program; the fee for nonmember children to participate is $5.
Families seeking to blend holiday fun with a love of all things ASU can attend Storytime with Sparky at 9 a.m. on Dec. 7. Little Sun Devils can enjoy stories, hot chocolate, cookies and special holiday photo opportunities with Sparky that won’t be found anywhere else. Storytime is a free event, but children must be members of the Sun Devil Generations program to participate.
Sun Devil Generations, created in 2007, forges a lifelong ASU connection by involving children in various university traditions at events catering specifically to youngsters. Aimed at children from birth to eighth grade, membership nurtures the relationship between a child and ASU and allows children and their families to participate in fun and unique activities.
