First week of classes: Fall 2010 By Lisa Robbins | August 19, 2010 Aug. 19 marked the first day back to school for ASU students. The maps and directory boards were a popular stop as students oriented themselves with the campuses and a new schedule. Volunteers, like education major Rachel Walker, were on campus to answer questions and give directions. In front of the Memorial Union, Cameron Nelson, a senior in the W.P. Carey School, checks his class schedule. ASU’s famed Palm Walk on the Tempe campus draws a crowd. There are 13,000 students that moved in to the residence halls at ASU this semester – about 10,000 of them call the Tempe campus home. Bike racks everywhere start to fill up. Bikes are a popular transportation choice for riding to and around campus. Amber Canyon, a transfer student from California, waits for the light rail to take her back to the Downtown Phoenix campus. She is a broadcast journalism major at the Cronkite School and was on the Tempe campus for an English class. The event is an annual tradition at the Tempe campus and is meant to showcase the myriad of events, organizations and opportunities available on four of the university’s campuses. The Passport to ASU event took place in various places on the Tempe campus, including the Student Recreation Center (shown here), the Memorial Union and the W.P. Carey School of Business fountain.
