Faculty Artist Series spans musical spectrum


Dynamic performances by ASU Herberger College world-renowned faculty musicians will kick off the spring Faculty Artist Series on a high note.

 

The series promises a dozen solo and ensemble performances from School of Music faculty, featuring music from the harpsichord to the saxophone. Community members can witness faculty musicians trade in their teaching tools and step into the spotlight.

 

“Community members will be delighted by the performances of these remarkable musicians,” says Kimberly Marshall, Goldman Professor of Organ and School of Music interim director. “Audiences can expect to hear a broad selection of musical works.”

 

Faculty Artist Series concerts will continue through April 15 in Katzin Concert Hall, in the School of Music building, 40 E. Gammage Parkway on the Tempe campus.

 

The schedule includes:

 

• 2:30 p.m., Feb. 4 – Joseph Wytko, saxophone, and Andrew Campbell, piano.

 

• 7:30 p.m., Feb. 9 – Eckart Sellheim and Dian Baker, piano four hands.

 

• 7:30 p.m., Feb. 16 – Albie Micklich, bassoon, and Andrew Campbell, percussion.

 

• 2:30 p.m., Feb. 25 – Sam Pilafian, tuba, and J.B. Smith, percussion.

 

• 2:30 p.m., March 4 – Elizabeth Buck, flute.

 

• 7:30 p.m., March 21 – Trio Del Sol: Robert Spring , Katie McLin and Andrew Campbell.

 

• 7:30 p.m., March 26 – Eckart Sellheim, piano.

 

• 2:30 p.m., April 1 – Walter Cosand, piano.

 

• 7:30 p.m., April 7 – Hamilton Tescarollo, piano.

 

• 7:30 p.m., April 10 – Robert Barefield, baritone, Eckart Sellheim, piano, and Carole FitzPatrick, soprano.

 

• 2:30 p.m., April 15 – Martin Shuring, oboe, and Seigbert Rampe, harpsichord.

 

General admission tickets to the performances are $8. Guests are encouraged to buy advance single tickets and can call the box office at (480) 965-6447 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Tickets are available at the door on a space-available basis.

 

ASU students can pick up free recital tickets during the week they occur at the Herberger College box office, located in the Nelson Fine Arts Center, pending availability. A current ASU student ID is required at pick-up time.
