Experts to debate next steps on Iran

As critical negotiations between the United States and Iran get under way, the McCain Institute for International Leadership will host the third debate of its Debate and Decision Series: "Iran: Are We Out of Options?" on April 17 at the Navy Memorial Theater in Washington, D.C.

Four distinguished policy experts will debate options for U.S. policy in addressing the nuclear program: Have sanctions failed or is there more time? Should we consider military action, or would such action only make the crisis worse?

Participants include former U.S. Congressman Robert Wexler, former Under Secretary of State Thomas R. Pickering, former Ambassador James F. Dobbins, and American Enterprise Institute Vice President Danielle Pletka.

Susan Glasser, of Foreign Policy Magazine, will moderate.

Debaters will address questions posed from the audience, and the audience and general public also can participate online by tweeting to @McCainInstitute and using hashtag #MIDebateIran.

Highlights of the McCain Institute’s prior debates can be seen here http://bit.ly/13962gn (on Syria) and here http://bit.ly/13cNKjY (on Afghanistan).

In the best American tradition of open inquiry and spirited discussion, and practical action, the McCain Institute is re-introducing the practice of structured, reasoned debate. The institute offers a frank, informed, non-partisan examination of crises in the world, and America’s options in addressing them.
