Escobedo, Castillo and Boyd Placed on All-American First Team


<p>A total of 54 student-athletes were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-American teams June 1, which included Sun Devils <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/escobedo_dallas00.html… Escobedo</a>, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/castillo_kaylyn00.html… Castillo</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/boyd_katelyn00.html">K… Boyd</a>, who were all named to the First Team, making it six consecutive seasons that ASU Softball has had at least one All-American</p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devil softball team was among an elite three clubs to place three players on the first team in 2011. At the pitcher position <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/escobedo_dallas00.html… Escobedo</a> nabbed her first appearance in a breakout freshman campaign after notching the 20th-best ERA in the nation at 1.37 and striking out 286 batters along the way.</p><separator></separator><p>Behind the dish <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/castillo_kaylyn00.html… Castillo</a> earned her stripes on the first team by hitting at a .358 clip and tallying 36 runs scored. In an at-large section at shortstop, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/boyd_katelyn00.html">K… Boyd</a> was the third ASU athlete to be recognized on the team. The junior has a .437 batting average, 17 home runs and paces the NCAA in runs per game with 1.25.</p>
