Diver Eggers earns First-Team Academic All-American honors

Arizona State junior diver Elina Eggers was named to the first team of the Capital One Academic All-American women’s at-large team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Eggers, the national runner-up on the women’s platform at NCAA Championships, earns her first honor as a first-team Academic All-American after earning third-team honors the previous season. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Eggers holds a 3.96 GPA in Economics at Arizona State and is the only Pac-10 athlete to earn first-team honors.

In March, the junior finished in second place at the 2011 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, scoring a 345.60 in the event to earn her second-consecutive All-American honors. Finishing less than 10 points behind first-place medalist Brittany Viola of Miami, Eggers holds the distinction of earning first-team All-America honors for both her athletic and academic achievements.

Other Sun Devils in recent history to accomplish the feat are: Ryan Whiting, 2010 (Track & Field), Jason Lewis, 2010 (Track & Field), Azahara Munoz, 2009 (women’s golf), Mike Leake, 2009 (Baseball), Sarah Stevens, 2009 (Track & Field), April Kubishta, 2008 (Track & Field), and Kaitlin Cochran, 2007 (Softball).
