April 17, 2012

Arizona State junior shortstop Deven Marrero has accepted an invitation to play for the USA Collegiate National Team. This will be the second consecutive season that Marrero has competed with the National Team.

Marrero, a native of Davie, Fla., has started 34 games this season and is batting .290 with 18 RBI, three home runs, three triple and 25 runs scored. He was named to the College Baseball 360 Primetime Performers honor roll following the team's three-game Pac-12 sweep over Oregon State.

Last year, Marrero led Team USA with 19 hits and 14 RBI in 14 games.

The Collegiate National Team will begin its summer schedule against three teams from the Coastal Plain Collegiate Baseball League and conclude it with a five-game series against Cuba, which begins July 5 and ends July 9, as well as the Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week at Pim Mulier Stadium in Haarlem, The Netherlands, from July 14-22.

With one member so far this year and two members last season, Arizona State now has sent a total of 19 student-athletes to play for the Red, White and Blue.
