Cruz publishes article in 'Arizona Attorney'

Evelyn Cruz, an Associate Clinical Professor and Director of the Immigration Law & Policy Clinic at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, has co-authored an article in the July/August issue of Arizona Attorney with Robert J. McWhirter, a Senior Attorney with the Maricopa County Office of the Legal Defender.

The article, "G-Men Run Amuck: The 287(g) Men and Immigration Law," points out that local police agencies receive little funding, except to cover training costs, from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to perform certain immigration functions.

"So, why would local law enforcement, like Maricopa County, want to have its taxpayer dollars enforce a federal crime?" the authors ask. "It makes good press."
