Club STEM registration underway for grades 5-8
Students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 can now register for Club STEM, which provides an opportunity to work on science, engineering and mathematics projects with university scientists, college students and high school students.
Club STEM is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., April 2 through May 7, with a Showcase Open House on May 21 where students will present their projects to family, friends and the community. Club STEM is located at the ASU Preparatory Academy at 7th and Fillmore Streets in Phoenix.
Students in 5th and and 6th grade build and test the strength of towers, design devices to protect an egg from a lofty drop, create catapults and trebuchets, and more. Students in 7th and 8th grade build parachutes and kites, and make flying objects to study the properties of flight and to create the most aerodynamic aircraft.
This program is fully subsidized by a grant to Arizona State University. Club STEM is part of STEM In the Middle, an initiative of ASU’s PRIME Center, to increase middle school students’ interest in science and mathematics.
