Census reveals Asian population fastest-growing in Arizona

May 16, 2011

The release of 2010 U.S. Census data continues to shed new light on the changing make-up of the nation and state. In a May 16 article in the Arizona Republic, ASU professor Wei Li offered insights on data revealing that Asians are now the fastest-growing population in Arizona, nearly doubling in ten years. This immigrant population is also growing in diversity. Chinese immigrants are outnumbered, for the first time, by Indian and Filipino immigrants.

Li, who holds joint appointments in the School of Social Transformation and the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, both academic units in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, chairs the Race and Ethnic Advisory Committee (REAC) on the Asian Population for the U.S. Census Bureau. She has served on this advisory committee since 2003, appointed and twice reappointed by three consecutive U.S. Secretaries of Commerce.
