Camp Broadway announces Tempe auditions


<p>Camp Broadway, the award-winning theater company that creates special Broadway-themed events, experiences and educational programs for children, teens and families, will perform in the annual Macy&#39;s Thanksgiving Day Parade for the fifth consecutive year.</p><separator></separator><p>Once again, hundreds of talented young performers from across the country will have the opportunity to perform a special number written especially for them on the national telecast.</p><separator></separator><p>This year, the parade&#39;s performance number is “Making Magic,” written by renowned composer Michael Feinstein, with lyrics by Bill Schermerhorn, Macy&#39;s creative director.</p><separator></separator><p>Camp Broadway auditions will be held in Tempe from 9 a.m. to noon, June 16, at ASU&#39;s Fine Arts Center, room 122.</p><separator></separator><p>Camp Broadway is seeking 600 energetic, bright performers, ages 10-16, to participate in a special one-week program leading up to the performance in the 81st Annual Macy&#39;s Thanksgiving Day Parade, live from Herald Square. This specially crafted program, featuring a series of Broadway workshops, classes and rehearsals, includes:</p><separator></separator><p>• A professionally choreographed musical routine.</p><separator></separator><p>• All rehearsals and run-throughs.</p><separator></separator><p>• Herald Square camera blocking rehearsal.</p><separator></separator><p>• Nationally televised parade performance.</p><separator></separator><p>• Costume fitting and make-up tips.</p><separator></separator><p>• Parade costume.</p><separator></separator><p>• Cast party (pizza party).</p><separator></separator><p>• Broadway dance workshop.</p><separator></separator><p>• Commemorative T-shirt.</p><separator></separator><p>• Commemorative Macy&#39;s parade pin.</p><separator></separator><p>Those auditioning should bring a completed application, wear dance shoes and comfortable clothes and be ready to dance (they will learn a combination by a Broadway choreographer). All videotape submissions should include a short dance routine and a one-minute song. Videotapes must arrive at the Camp Broadway office by Sept. 1.
