Cako, McKenna and Hein earn NCAA Women's Tennis at-large selections
Three Sun Devils were selected to compete in the NCAA women’s tennis singles and doubles Championships, held May 25-30 after the conclusion of the team championships which run May 20-24.
Freshman Jacqueline Cako and senior Kelcy McKenna were two of 14 Pac-10 tennis players to earn NCAA at-large singles bids. By receiving a top-16 seed, Cako becomes the first freshman women’s tennis player at Arizona State to earn All-America honors since Allison Bradshaw accomplished the feat in 1999.
McKenna also earned an at-large bid to compete in the NCAA doubles competition with partner Micaela Hein. ASU’s No. 1 double’s pair most recently made it to the final four teams standing at the Pac-10 Championships before falling to USC’s Sanchez/Christian in the semifinals.
In 2009, McKenna became the first Sun Devil since Adria Engel in 2002 to earn All-American honors in both singles and doubles, a feat only six Arizona State players have accomplished.
All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be held in Stanford, Calif.
