Buel selected for Centennial Professor Award

Clinical Professor Sarah M. Buel recently was selected as one of the 2012-2013 Centennial Professors by the Associated Students of Arizona State University (ASASU).

Buel, along with two professors from other fields, were chosen from 250 nominees in what the event organizers called the most competitive selection process to date. Buel was recognized for her accomplishments at the Centennial Professor Award Dinner on April 18.

“She is not only a prolific advocate, she is an instructional leader who approaches every class with the intention to equip students with the tools necessary to become profound voices for social justice,” one nominator said.

The ASASU awarded the three winners a prize of $4,000 and a stipend of $6,000 each to be used for the benefit of students and classroom teaching.

Buel said she will use the stipend to fund research assistance with an upcoming book publication, provide scholarships for student travel to conferences, and expand the Medical-Legal Partnership she directs by developing additional legal education brochures.
