Boyd's walk-off homer lifts softball over Creighton 3-1

Katelyn Boyd was clutch in extra innings for Arizona State softball as the senior came through with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth against Creighton.

The Sun Devils escaped with a 3-1 victory, March 4, to improve to 20-2. After a four-inning pitching duel, it would be Creighton (8-6) to score first in the top of the fifth.

Pinch hitter Blair Lowe came home on a wild pitch after reaching via base on balls. The Bluejays held the lead for one full inning before Amber Freeman tied it up 1-1 in the sixth with her fourth home run of the year. Using international tiebreaker rules in the extra frame, Dallas Escobedo would tab a pair of strikeouts to her name – putting down the threat of a runner in scoring position at second base. Escobedo finished the game with 11 strikeouts.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bailey Wigness was placed at second with Katelyn Boyd leading off. With a count of 2-and-2 Boyd homered a two-RBI shot to right center to clinch the 3-1 win for Arizona State. ASU finished the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational 5-0.
