Blood donors 'on board' for Grand Canyon drawing


<p>Blood donors will still have a chance in May to win tickets for a magical train trip – aboard the Grand Canyon Railway to one of the wonders of the world.</p><separator></separator><p>Carrying over from the April railway promotion, all donors in May will be entered into a drawing for 60 pairs of tickets to the Grand Canyon, valued at $140 per pair.</p><separator></separator><p>ASU Tempe campus’s only blood drive during May will be Tuesday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The United Blood Services Bloodmobile will be stationed just south of the Memorial Union.</p><separator></separator><p>To make a donation appointment, call 1-877-448-GIVE (4483) toll free or visit <a href="http://www.UnitedBloodServicesAZ.org">www.UnitedBloodServicesAZ.org</a>… donors during the month of May will help children like Hayley, who will celebrate her 11th birthday on Memorial Day thanks to 95 blood donors.&nbsp; She was born with Diamond Blackfan Anemia, a rare disease that prevented her body from producing red blood cells.</p><separator></separator><p>Hayley relied on the kindness of strangers to provide lifesaving blood transfusions every month at Phoenix Children’s Hospital until she was able to receive a bone marrow transplant in 2007. “Blood donors gave our daughter the chance to play, jump and laugh like other children,” said her mom, Melana. “They are true heroes.”</p>
