Blood donors 'on board' for Grand Canyon drawing

Blood donors will still have a chance in May to win tickets for a magical train trip – aboard the Grand Canyon Railway to one of the wonders of the world.

Carrying over from the April railway promotion, all donors in May will be entered into a drawing for 60 pairs of tickets to the Grand Canyon, valued at $140 per pair.

ASU Tempe campus’s only blood drive during May will be Tuesday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The United Blood Services Bloodmobile will be stationed just south of the Memorial Union.

To make a donation appointment, call 1-877-448-GIVE (4483) toll free or visit www.UnitedBloodServicesAZ.org.

Blood donors during the month of May will help children like Hayley, who will celebrate her 11th birthday on Memorial Day thanks to 95 blood donors.  She was born with Diamond Blackfan Anemia, a rare disease that prevented her body from producing red blood cells.

Hayley relied on the kindness of strangers to provide lifesaving blood transfusions every month at Phoenix Children’s Hospital until she was able to receive a bone marrow transplant in 2007. “Blood donors gave our daughter the chance to play, jump and laugh like other children,” said her mom, Melana. “They are true heroes.”
