Bender quoted in 'State Press'
<p>Professor <a href="http://www.law.asu.edu/Apps/Faculty/Faculty.aspx?individual_id=23">Paul Bender</a> of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law was quoted recently in an article in the <i>State Press</i> headlined "Goddard, Sinema accused of not 'resigning to run.'"</p><separator></separator><p>The Sept. 8 article by reporter Derek Quizon discussed Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen's claim that State Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Phoenix, and Attorney General Terry Goddard, both alumni of the College of Law, broke a voter-approved state law that prohibits elected officials from announcing their candidacy for one office while serving in another.</p><separator></separator><p>Bender, who teaches Arizona Constitutional law, said a "formal declaration of candidacy" would include announcements of campaign fundraising and the hiring of a campaign staff, which neither Goddard nor Sinema did.</p><separator></separator><p>Bender added that Pullen's accusations are nothing more than a political game.</p><separator></separator><p>"He's doing this to divert attention from other things, or he's doing it to be a nuisance to the Democrats," Bender said.</p><separator></separator><p>Read the entire article <a href="http://www.statepress.com/node/7283">here</a>.</p><separator></separato… /><span style="font-family: Tahoma; color: black; font-size: 9pt" lang="EN">Janie Magruder, <a href="mailto:Jane.Magruder@asu.edu"><font color="#0000ff">Jane.Magruder@asu.edu</font></a><br />(480) 727-9052<br />Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law</span></p>
