Bender discusses U.S. Senate vote delay
Professor Paul Bender, of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, was quoted in the March 24 edition of The Arizona Republic in an article about the U.S. Senate delaying a vote on the proposed tax on bonuses of American International Group executives.
In the article, "Senate stalls vote to tax AIG bonuses," reporter Dan Nowicki quoted Bender as saying a bill passed by the U.S. House to levy a 90 percent tax on the bonuses likely would pass constitutional muster. Bender said it would tax money earned this year and probably would not be deemed a retroactive punishment.
"Whether it's a good idea or not is another question," Bender said.
