Bender comments on case regarding prayer in city council meetings

Professor Paul Bender weighed in on a recent U.S. Supreme Court hearing regarding prayer in city council meetings in an article by Michelle Mitchell of the Arizona Republic.

The June 14 article, “Chandler City Council members back prayer policy,” explores Chandler’s tradition of performing invocations before City Council meetings and how that could be affected by a U.S. Supreme Court decision.

“This case raises the question of whether it’s also okay if you don’t remain with an all-purpose, non-denominational prayer,” Bender said.

"It's going to be a very important case for what cities can do.”
