Baseball falls to Arizona, 10-2

The 16th-ranked Arizona State baseball team lost to eighth-ranked Arizona 10-2 on Wednesday night in front of 3,098 fans at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

Sun Devil fans raised $3,447 for the Cory Hahn Foundation in the second "Pass The Bucket Night" and the loss ties the five-game baseball State Farm Territorial Cup Series at one game apiece.

A solo home to right field by Abe Ruiz and three consecutive base hits, including an RBI single by Beau Maggi, in the ninth inning gave the Sun Devils (32-18) their only two runs of the game.

Arizona added to its advantage in the third inning on an RBI single by Joseph Maggi.

Joey DeMichele knocked a two-out triple to center field in the fourth inning to collect the first hit of the game for the Devils and the next two batters walked to load the bases, but ASU was unable to capitalize.

Bobby Brown led off the fifth inning with a solo home run to right field to extend Arizona's lead, 5-0.

ASU starting right-hander Darin Gillies (1-4) gave up three runs, including two earned, on three hits and struck out one in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Left-hander Adam McCreery, making his appearance since March 13 against Utah Valley, pitched the back-end of the second and all of the third inning and allowed one run on a pair of hits with a strikeout.

Arizona starting right-hander Matthew Troupe (3-1) earned the win after throwing five scoreless innings and striking out six. Tyler Crawford (2) closed out the final four frames to get the save.
