ASU hosted the 10th annual football kickoff luncheon at Wells Fargo Arena. Among the many attendees were U.S. Representative Congressman Harry Mitchell, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and U.S. Senator John McCain. They received jerseys from ASU athletes Gerald Munns (with Mitchell, at left), Omar Bolden (with Brewer, center) and Thomas Weber (with McCain, at right).

Six faculty members, were named exemplars this year by ASU President Michael Crow. They are rising stars, cited as outstanding individuals whose talent and hard work place them among the finest teacher-scholars ASU has to offer. Graduate student Brianne Petritis loads an agarose gel for DNA analysis. Petritis’ graduate research is being performed in the Virginia G. Piper Center for Personalized Diagnostics at ASU’s Biodesign Institute – where researchers, under the leadership of Dr. Joshua LaBaer, are analyzing proteins to discover markers for the early identification of diseases such as diabetes and cancers of the lung and breast.

The families of students enjoy some entertainment by the ASU concert band during the annual Family Weekend event.

ASU student Erica Reyes appeared on national television as ASU's KAET Channel 8 played host to the Education Nation event, an interactive summit with Arnie Duncan, Secretary of Education and hosted by Tom Brokaw broadcast on MSNBC.

ASU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Gold Team were this year's winner of the annual ASU Academic Bowl. The Gold team claimed victory after defeating their rivals – the Maroon Team of CLAS – in a seventh round tiebreaker. From left to right: Ana Ordonez, Louie Weimer, Kevin Coltin and Nicholas Williams. The winning team receives a trophy and $24,000 in scholarship money.

Actor Edward James Olmos addressed a full crowd in ASU's Lyceum Theatre during his visit to the Tempe campus, Oct. 12. Olmos also presented the annual Flinn Foundation Centennial Lecture later that evening.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and ASU President Michael M. Crow participate in “Investing in the Future: A Conversation with Governor Jeb Bush” event. Crow and Bush were joined by Ross DeVol, of the Milken Institute; Bill Harris, from Science Foundation Arizona; and Sue Clark Johnson with the Morrison Institute.

The intellectually curious gathered at Gammage Auditorium Nov. 6 to attend “The Great Debate: Can Science Tell Us Right From Wrong?” The event brought together a distinguished panel of scientists, philosophers and public intellectuals to take part in a public discussion on the origins of morality.

Diane Sawyer broadcasted ABC's "World News with Diane Sawyer" from atop the Cronkite Building on the Downtown Phoenix campus Nov. 11. Sawyer was in Phoenix to receive the 2010 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.

ASU defeated Arizona in an overtime win, 29-30, for the Territorial Cup Dec. 2. Adam Tello holds the cup in celebration with his teammates after their victory on Wildcat soil.
