ASU educational technology doctoral student John Sadauskas demonstrates use of an EEG headset, one of three kinds of sensors helping researchers observe student behavior and physiological responses while using Facebook. The research project at the Advancing Next Generation Learning Environments (ANGLE) Lab at ASU is overseen by associate professor Robert Atkinson.

As doctoral student John Sadauskas responds to Facebook, a dashboard of data gathers input from the student's EEG headset, skin-response bracelet and eye tracker to indicate where and when he becomes frustrated, engaged, excited, focused and more. The project is being funded by the Office of Naval Research.

Feedback techniques used in ASU's Facebook project are providing an unprecedented level of insight into how people learn most effectively, according to associate professor Robert Atkinson. The ANGLE Lab director has joint appointments in Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, and is a senior sustainability scientist in ASU's Global Institute of Sustainability.
