The School of Earth and Space Exploration showed off their new facilities in the Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 4 (ISTB4) during their annual exploration day, Nov. 10.

Steve Semken, associate professor of geology, better known as “Dr. Rock,” was a popular attraction at the event as he attempted to identify rocks brought in by attendees.

The interactive displays in the lobby of ISTB4 were thoroughly examined and enjoyed by visitors.

Arden Bement, director of the Global Policy Research Institute at Purdue and former director of the National Science Foundation, discussed his views on the future developments at U.S. public universities as part of the Frank Rhodes Lecture on the Creation of the Future, presented by ASU's Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development.

Brian Behnken, assistant professor of history at Iowa State University, spoke at the Memorial Union, Nov. 13, as part of the Visionary Lecture Series presented by the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. Behnken's talk was titled "The Struggle in Black and Brown: Comparative Civil Rights and 21st Century Race Relations."

Phoenix attorney Lonnie J. Williams Jr., a partner at Stinson Morrison Hecker, speaks at the 13th annual John P. Morris Memorial Lecture, titled “What is your personal responsibility in addressing the challenges of diversity in our multicultural society?” at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, Nov. 13. Co-hosted by the Black Law Students Association, the lecture honors John Peyton Morris, a law faculty member from 1968-1993, who was committed to the principles of justice and equal opportunity and worked tirelessly throughout his life to foster diversity.

Angela Deng and Stacey Eskinazi, both sophomore finance majors, find the Starbucks couches in the ASU Memorial Union a great place to take a break from their homework as they surf the web and make plans for Thanksgiving.
