This week, the Associated Students of ASU presented their 2011-2012 Centennial Professor Awards, given to recognize and encourage excellent teaching and leadership within and beyond the classroom. Prior to the official groundbreaking ceremony for the addition to the Student Recreation Complex on the Tempe campus, Breanne Hill, Niesha Whitman and Emeka Ikeguonu sign a plaque. Construction is slated to be complete in the fall of 2013. Funded by a fee increase voted on by the students, the facility will have five indoor basketball courts and a multi-use court for indoor soccer and field hockey.

The Sun Devil Fitness Complex at the ASU West campus broke ground, and is part of a dining and residence community already under construction. Natalie Reyna, a freshman global health major, signed the last beam, which will be put into place in late June of this year. The recreation center will be completed in January of 2013, while the dining and residence construction will be ready for incoming students in August of 2012.

Biomedical engineering sophomore Alex Walsh shares his research project on the creation of a realistic CPR manikin with his mother, Nora Walsh, at the spring 2012 FURI symposium. The Fulton Undergraduate Research Initiative is a program at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering that offers undergraduate students the opportunity to gain hands-on lab experience. Wednesday, April 25 was Reading Day – a time set aside to prepare for final exams – and one of the traditions of Reading Day is to serve up a hearty breakfast late in the evening to fuel all-night study sessions. On all four campuses university faculty and staff volunteered to serve the meals to students.
