ASU's Polytechnic campus to Raise Food, Funds at Annual 5K/2 Mile Run/Walk Event

Mesa, Ariz. -- Arizona State University at the Polytechnic campus will host the sixth annual Dauntless Drumstix Dash (Dash), a timed 5K road race, a two-mile fun walk, and a 1/2 mile kids' fun run, on Nov. 20. The kids' run kicks off the event at 8 a.m. and the fun walk and 5K run follow at 8:20/8:30 a.m., respectively.

If you register before Nov. 12, the registration fee is $15; $18 after Nov. 12. For the kid's run, it's $5 any time. All of the proceeds from the Dash go toward a scholarship fund, which builds a lasting endowment that will help needy students.

"Individuals and companies can be an intricate part in building this endowment by participating in the event," said Walter Carter, co-organizer of the event and a DPS officer at the campus.

In addition, each runner/walker is asked to bring a canned good to the event as part of a food drive for Mesa United Food Bank.

A children's activity hour will be hosted by the campus' Elementary Education faculty. Craft activities for runners'/walkers' children will be provided free of charge. This activity hour allows the serious runners/walkers to focus on their event.

Food will be provided after the race by the Native American student club and the Dash, including Indian fry bread, grilled hot dogs, Gatorade and fruit.

Each participant will receive a Dauntless Drumstix Dash t-shirt. And, overall first place male and female winners will receive hand-made Kachina dolls, with trophies going to the top male and female age group winners.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to participate. For more information or to register, contact Carter at (480) 727-3457 or wecarter@asu.edu, or visit www.east.asu.edu/dash.
