ASU's Polytechnic campus to Raise Food, Funds at Annual 5K/2 Mile Run/Walk Event


<p>Mesa, Ariz. -- Arizona State University at the Polytechnic campus will host the sixth annual Dauntless Drumstix Dash (Dash), a timed 5K road race, a two-mile fun walk, and a 1/2 mile kids' fun run, on Nov. 20. The kids' run kicks off the event at 8 a.m. and the fun walk and 5K run follow at 8:20/8:30 a.m., respectively.</p><separator></separator><p>If you register before Nov. 12, the registration fee is $15; $18 after Nov. 12. For the kid's run, it's $5 any time. All of the proceeds from the Dash go toward a scholarship fund, which builds a lasting endowment that will help needy students.</p><separator></separator><p>&quot;Individuals and companies can be an intricate part in building this endowment by participating in the event,&quot; said Walter Carter, co-organizer of the event and a DPS officer at the campus.</p><separator></separator><p>In addition, each runner/walker is asked to bring a canned good to the event as part of a food drive for Mesa United Food Bank.</p><separator></separator><p>A children's activity hour will be hosted by the campus' Elementary Education faculty. Craft activities for runners'/walkers' children will be provided free of charge. This activity hour allows the serious runners/walkers to focus on their event.</p><separator></separator><p>Food will be provided after the race by the Native American student club and the Dash, including Indian fry bread, grilled hot dogs, Gatorade and fruit.</p><separator></separator><p>Each participant will receive a Dauntless Drumstix Dash t-shirt. And, overall first place male and female winners will receive hand-made Kachina dolls, with trophies going to the top male and female age group winners.</p><separator></separator>Individuals and teams are encouraged to participate.
