ASU student earns Runyan Scholarship

<p>For the second time since the scholarship’s formation in 2002, an ASU student has been awarded a Paul Runyan Collegiate Golf Management Scholarship from the PGA of America.</p><separator></separator><p>Andrew Warren, a senior in the Morrison School of Management and Agribusiness professional golf management (PGM) program, recently received $1,500 toward his final year of studies from the national association.</p><separator></separator><p>Warren, originally from California, began ASU’s PGM program in 2004.</p><separator></separator><p>“I had always been interested in pursuing a business degree while in high school, and also played on my school’s golf team,” Warren says. “I first heard about the Morrison School program from an article in the Wall Street Journal, and I knew immediately that it was going to be a perfect fit.”</p><separator></separator><p>Warren maintains a 3.7 GPA in his program while working full time at the Phoenix Country Club. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career as a head golf professional at a private golf club, as well as participate in a program to teach golf to children. He joins ASU alumnus Peter McSparran, who was the first student to receive the scholarship in 2006.</p><separator></separator><p>The college scholarship is named for two-time PGA Champion and World Golf Hall of Fame member Paul Runyan, identified as one of Golf Magazine’s “Top 50 Teachers.” Runyan’s legacy continues through the scholarship, awarding students based on grade point average, professional golf training requirements and community involvement, as well as a personal essay titled, “Why do you want to become a PGA professional?”</p><separator></separator><p>Stephanie Patterson, <a href="/stephanie.patterson@asu.edu">stephanie.patterson@asu.edu</a><br />(480) 727-1173 <br />Public Affairs - Polytechnic campus</p>
