ASU professor on the unique role citizens play in scientific research


Citizens of all stripes are getting involved with scientific research, either by developing projects of their own or by contributing to ongoing research.

Darlene Cavalier, professor at Arizona State University's Center for Engagement and Training in Science and Society (CENTSS), discussess with Mark Brodie on KJZZ's "Here and Now" the many opportunities available to citizens interested in science and the unique perspectives and benefits that citizens can bring to research.

Cavalier is the founder of SciStarter and Science Cheerleader, two organizations that encourage and facilitate citizen involvement with science.

She also discusses the new partnership between ASU's CENTSS, SciStarter, Public Lab and the Museum of Science, Boston, that is working to provide citizens easy and affordable access to science equipment. The White House highlighted the partnership during its science fair in March.
